Monmouthshire Museums Collections Storage Review
This commission involved working with a collections specialist to develop a strategic plan addressing challenges in the quantity and quality of collections storage across the Monmouthshire Museums Service, while also providing capacity for future acquisitions.
We helped to develop a brief for future storage requirements and standards, assessed each of the nine buildings on separate sites available to the Service for quantity, quality, and accessibility of storage, including benchmarking their performance in environmental control against the principles of BS EN 16893. We provided seven options for the future improvement and allocation of storage capacity across all sites and helped the client select their preferred option. As a result of the study, the client was able to adopt the plan that led to the new Monmouth Museum project which made a successful application for funding and is due to open in 2027 in the Grade II* listed Shire Hall.
